Summer is in full swing here in Michigan, and I love it. In the last 7 days, I've gone golfing 6 times! Exactly what summers are for.

Not too much to report on. My father is recovering nicely; thanks to all those that sent in get well cards. He couldn't believe that people he's never met from all over the world would be interested in his well-being. He says "Thanks" to everyone.

My handicap is at it's lowest point, a 17. No, I'm not a pro, but I am proud of myself. I had a 40 on the front nine of my home course a few days ago, and I posted the scorecard on my fridge. My wife thinks I play too much golf; she doesn't understand, does she?

Newslinx Web News
http://newslinx.internet.com/

Absolutely the best place to find info on what is going on online. This site (which is also available as a daily email) only contains headers to the top stories on the Internet, and links to them on other sites.

This site pulls information from many, many sites, such as: Cnn, BBC News, Internet.com, USA Today, Seattle Times, and Reuters. If you're surfing Ebay, and can't get on, you may want to go here and find out why their servers are down (again). Some of the top stories the last time I was there concerned MP3 pirating, Tech changing doctor/patient relationship, NASA servers hacked, Web voyeurism, and a Spanish only auction site.

Up to the minute info on just about everything related to the Internet.

* Feature Article "My Golf Game"

Since this is a newsletter concerned with golf, and it is my newsletter, I think it only fitting that I talk about my game for a change. As I stated earlier, I am at a 17 handicap, which says that I can keep it in the fairway, but my short game needs a lot of work. What did I do to attain this handicap? That is what this article is all about.

First, what's in my bag? All of my clubs are Taylor Made, some older than others. My irons are Burners with graphite shafts (made before the burner bubbles were available). I carry 4 woods, with the Driver and 5-wood being titanium, and the 3 and 7 the regular burner bubble woods. I bought each seperately, thus the differences. My putter is a Nubbins mallet, and I completely love it. Upon practicing with it in the golf shop, I made the first 6 putts I tried, and bought it on the spot!

So what goes through the mind of a 17 handicap on the first tee? Here's the breakdown of my preshot routine and swing thoughts:

1. Put the ball and tee in the ground, pushing the tee about halfway down, then moving the ball out of the way to ensure the tee is straight, then pushing the ball down until I have enough room between the ball and the ground for two fingers. This is about the perfect height for me to tee off.

2. Step back, take a full practice swing, and concentrate on the transfer of the weight at the beginning of my downswing. I've just started incorporating the entire lower body into my swing, as you will see.

3. Stand roughly 7 paces behind the ball, and draw a line from the left-center of the fairway to the ball. I choose left-center because my normal ball flight is left to right, and I rarely hook. If it goes straight or right, I'm safe. Playing my strengths, minimizing my weaknesses.

4. After drawing this line 2 or 3 times, I'll pick a spot about 2 feet in front of the ball that follows that line, and step up to the ball, while looking at that spot. I'll then align the clubhead so it's perpendicular to the line, and then start aligning my feet so they are parallel. Once those 2 items are taken care of, I'll align my knees, hips, and shoulders, so I am completely parallel to the target line.

5. I'll lower my right shoulder a little bit, to promote an upswing. I'll then turn my head VERY slightly to the right (I'm a right handed golfer), and use this as the beginning of my swing. Some people use their hands to start their swing; I use my head. When my head stops, my club begins to move back.

6. My thoughts on the way back are to transfer the weight immediately to the inside of my right foot, and to take the club all the way to the top. Not an overswing, but a full one.

7. Here's where I think I've improved the most. When I start the downswing, I immediately transfer my weight from the inside of my right foot to my left foot, THEN turn (not slide) my hips to the left, trying to point my belt buckle at the target, and let the hands, arms, and club just fall into place.

Please realize that my swing is very slow. I've even had people comment that they could never swing as slow as I do. Even as slow as I swing, I can still drive 200+ yards. By including my lower body in the swing, it's added a lot of consistency to my game.

If you are looking for a tip, my first advice is always to take a lesson. If you've never taken one, it will be the best money you've ever spent, trust me. I held out for a year before taking one, and was mad after I finally did. I could have been improving all that time, instead of exchanging one swing fault for another!

Hopefully, this little account of my full swing will help some of you out, or at least provide a good read. Now I would like to ask a question. Originally in this spot, I've been discussing things that relate to promoting a site, good design, and so forth. Would you rather I went back to that, or would you like to see more articles on the actual game of golf, such as the one above? Or would you like to see both? Maybe a section for tips, possibly from readers? Maybe some golf jokes? Stories about golf?

I guess what I'm asking is: What would you, the reader, like to see in this newsletter? I thoroughly love the game of golf, and enjoy providing information for other like-minded individuals. Please let me know what you would like to see in this newsletter, and please feel free to contribute anything that you think would add value to another struggling players game (especially you head pro's out there).
