Another busy month, what with all the good weather, and all the golf I've been
playing. Completed some work for Trophy Lake Golf & Casting (http://www.trophylakegolf.com)
in Washington state during the month. Provided them with Course Promotion. They
were only listed on 3 of the possible 40 sites that list golf courses for free,
and on the ones that they were listed, some of the info was incorrect, and some
of it was blank. Personally, I think this section of the business is the most
important, and the most overlooked. How is a visitor to your town going to know
about your course if it isn't listed in the directories?

Unclaimed Baggage

This site offers you the chance to buy items that are found in unclaimed baggage.
The site revolves around a brick and mortar business located in Alabama, but
online shopping is available. Some of the categories include: Books, Jewelry,
Kids, Sporting Goods and Versace, along with all sorts of clothes, of course.
Although I don't personally think the prices are as low as they could be, some
of them are enticing.
One of the best things about this site is the section called "What is it?" An
item is displayed from a few different angles, and you can send in your guesses
as to what it is. The site also offers travel tips, upcoming events, and a list
you can join to find out about specific in-store specials.

I was flipping through the September 1 issue of PC Magazine, and found a tiny
article discussing the problems search engines are having covering the entire
Web. It seems that with the explosive growth of the Internet, and the multitude
of Web pages, the search engines can't keep up with indexing the Web, as they
were initially designed to do. There is just too much out there. The actual
percent of the Web that is covered is saddening to those that don't know how
to manually submit. The findings are:

The reason the numbers are so low is that most queries can be satisfied with
a relatively small database.
The purpose of this story is to stress manual submission. It used to be that,
eventually, the spiders of the engines would get to your site, and list it accordingly.
Obviously, this isn't true anymore. IF you have a site that has never been maunally
submitted to the major search engines, you are probably losing traffic. Keep
in mind, that one of the most used directories is Yahoo!, which has always been
manual submission only. Human beings enter info that has been submitted to them;
there are no spiders for Yahoo!
A perfect example for Yahoo! is to go to their site, and type in "manistee golf"
and hit Search, and see what you come up with. Although there are over 7 courses
in the county of Manistee, the only site that shows up is Online Golf Solutions.
Why? Because it was manually submitted by yours truly. I've had more hits from
Yahoo!, where someone typed in "manistee golf" than I can count anymore.
I hope that this article stresses to you the importance of manual submission.
If you don't have the time or inclination to do it yourself, be sure to hire
someone that has done it before, and knows how to do it correctly. If you're

"Golf is Life and Life is Lessons"
The National Golf Foundation, located in Jupiter, Florida, offers over two hundred
publications relating to the game of golf. Among them are titles such as "A
Beginner's Guide to Golf", "Planning and Conducting Competitive Golf Events"
and "Fund Raising with Golf". These books and others are invaluable as points
of reference pertaining to hints, tips, rules and regulations that are necessary
to playing the game in a correct manner.
The following is an excerpt from the "Easy Way to Learn Golf Rules". When driving
from the tee, the ball may be teed up and must be played from between the markers
and not more than two-club lengths behind the markers, never in front of them.
If the ball, when not in play, falls off the tee before you've taken your forward
swing, you may re-tee it without penalty. But if you swing and miss, that is
a "whiff" and it counts one stroke.
Learning all the nuances of the game of golf makes it that much more of a challenge
