Hope everyone had a good holiday and a happy new year. Just celebrated my 3rd
anniversary with my wife. We ordered a pizza and watched a few movies. Does
that mean I'm getting old?
Short newsletter this month; I did change the Interesting News section to all
golf links. I'll probably mix and match links, if I think they belong in the
newsletter. If you have an interesting link, feel free to send it to danperry@onlinegolfsolutions.com

* Golf Quote Of The Month

"There's a great difference between intelligence and wisdom. You might have
a college sheepskin, that doesn't mean your educated. Life's too short for me
to go around explaining myself. A lot of poeople don't understand modesty. Not
everybody wants publicity you know."
Ben Hogan, September 1970

CNNSI.com - Golf Plus http://www.cnnsi.com/golf/
One of my favorite all-inclusive golf pages out there. Of course, it has the
usual leaderboards, schedules and stats, but it also has some human interest
stories. Currently, there are stories on Payne Stewart being honoree of the
2001 Memorial Tournament, and Greg Norman testifying against a scamming jeweler
in Florida. Always worth a look.

* Feature Article "Moe Norman Part 1"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Moe Norman is a golfer from Canada that wasn't nearly as popular as he should
have been. The best way to explain is to have you read the following, which
I have collected from old Golf magazines, and a recent Readers Digest. In this
first of two parts, I'll cover some of the history of Moe, and some examples
of his lack of patience.
His first golf club was a tree branch, his second a hockey stick.
He bought his first real club, a 5-iron, from a man who let him pay it off at
ten cents a week. Norman was left-handed, but the club right-handed, so he switched.
He often hit balls until his hands were bleeding. When the blood made his grips
slippery, he wiped his hands on his golf towel and pants, and kept hitting until
it was too dark to see. When he got home, he looked like he spent the day slaughtering
chickens.
Norman supported himself by selling the prizes he won at amateur events. On
at least five occasions, he intentionally finished second becuase his customers
hadn't wanted the first place prize.
His first tournament as a pro was the three-day Ontario Open. He shot 68-69-74,
and won by three.
He would often lie down in the fairway, waiting for slower players to hit.
At the Masters in 1956, Norman hit his first tee shot while the announcer was
in the middle of introducing him.
He once putted between the foot and outstretched arm of a competitor who was
marking his ball.
Once on the driving range, he hit 131 drives in a row from the same tee without
having to straighten or adjust it. In tournaments, he would entertain the gallery
by hitting drives from the mouth of a Coke bottle.
