Well, I finally caught the flu bug. It took until the middle of January, but I got it in spades. I coughed so hard, that I knocked 3 ribs out of alignment! I went to a chiropracter for the first time to get realigned, and my back hasn't felt this good in years. Makes me wish it was golf season!

"Golf is to have fun. What do you have to lose? A lousy ball, that's all. If you lose yours, grab another one out of your bag and hit it. That is what the game's about, and that is the first thing I was taught 55 years ago: Have fun. Most golfer's don't see the bright side. All they see is bad. But if you see the bad things, that's where your mind will take you. If you drive a car down the road and look at the sidewalk, where do you think you're going to put the car? It's the3 same thing on the giolf course. People see only trees and water. But I don't. To me, they are only there as an ornament. They are there to make the course look nicer. All I see is the tee, middle of the fairway, and middle of the green. That's golf. I hit my eighteen fairways and eighteen greens and go on to the next day."

* Feature Article "Moe Norman Part 2"
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Last month I wrote some interesting facts about Moe Norman. This month, I'll continue with Moe, covering some of his records, and some more interesting info.

In 1966, he won 5 of the 12 tournaments he entered, came in second in 5, and finished no lower than 5th.

In 1979, he won seven consecutive Canadian PGA Senior Championships, tied for 5th in the eighth, and won the 9th by eight strokes.

He's set more than 30 course records, including three scores of 59, and four scores of 61. His most recent 59 was shot at the age of 62.

In one tournament, he came to the final green with a three-stroke lead. He intentionally putted into a bunker, and got up and down to win.

Hitting a 7-iron, Moe hits two dozen balls which soar 150 yards and come to rest so close to each other you could cover them with a bedspread.

Sam Snead and Moe played an exhibition match in Toronto in 1957. On one hole, a creek crossed the fairway about 240 yds out. Moe reached for his driver. "Moe, you can't clear the creek with your driver," said Snead. "Not trying to" said Norman. "I'm playing for the bridge." Snead's tee shot ended up safely short of the creek. Norman's drive landed short, and rolled over the bridge to the other side.

At the Quebec Open in 1971, Moe four-putted the final green, and came in second. A week later on the tee of a 233 yd par three, a reporter asked "Any four putts today?" Norman teed up the ball and, while in mid-flight, said to the reporter "Not putting today." The ball landed on the front of the green and rolled in.

At an exhibition, Norman hit 1,540 drives in a little under 7 hours. None was shorter than 225 yds, and all landed in a marked 30 yd wide landing strip.
