Ah, the beauty of May. The flowers are coming up in the yard, and it's time to put the snow blower away, and break out the lawn mower. It's all work, right?
Not much to report about. I have been working on a new online business, and I hope to have enough done by next month to put it on the Web. Of course, I'll need your opinions, so I'll keep you posted.

Bad Golf Monthly
http://www.badgolfmonthly.com/
Bad Golf Monthly has all sorts of info on their site, which is dubbed "The site
for the golfer who really sucks!" I think we can all relate to that at one time
or another. One of the best sections os the golf jokes area, which is full of
golf jokes, and not just the ones you've heard before. You can also send in
your own jokes.
There's also a Hall of Shame, Classified, and Sounds of the Game.

Why are you playing golf "as if" it's an alien game or sport?

As a teacher I'm often saddened to see so many golfers failing to play to their abilities.
I've witnessed many golfers who were "above average" athletes at other sport's or games, yet when playing golf they act "as if" they're on an alien planet. All their athletic ability vanishes and is replaced by mediocrity. They lose to people who couldn't even carry their "___ straps" in any other sport or game which requires hand eye coordination.
Many begin accepting their losses to lessor gifted athletes "as if" it was attributable to something which "only" happens in golf. They walk around in a fog and have absolutely no knowledge on how to improve their game.
If you're one of those types then pay close attention to what I'm about to say.
The most dramatic and remarkable improvements I ever witnessed were by two students who fit the above.
Andy was a bowler with several 300 games to his credit and John and had played semiprofessional ice hockey in his youth. So how were they able to instantly improve their lifetime best golf scores by more than ten strokes on their next rounds without practice ?
Well, it was partially my fault --- both were friends and I knew they were bad golfers. When I learned about their other talents I got upset and decided to do something about improving their golf.
John a left handed with a horrible slice had been playing for fifteen years and never broke 100 and he loved to gamble. I offered him the following bet. I'd have him hitting a hook within 15 minutes and the lesson would cost him twice my normal fee or nothing, his decision. (He took it.)
Andy worked at the club where I taught and I'd just learned he'd bowled a 300 game the night before. While congratulating him, I was shocked to learn it wasn't his first. I'd walked past Andy on the driving range and made a casual suggestion about a swing change and he later thanked me, saying it helped. So I mentioned that "had I known" he was that good of a bowler I could've helped him more and later that day I did.
Well, John shot 89 that same day and Andy who's previous best was 89 shot 78 three days later. Both without any additional practice. John was extremely excited and went directly from the lesson tee to the course and Andy went back to work. When Andy reported his great round to me, he said he'd never "felt the need" to practice because he was sure he could do it.
So what was this magic I worked on them ?
Nothing really, I simply had John see the golf ball as a "hockey puck" and Andy the golf ball as a "bowling ball" and the rest is history.
Once they were able to quit seeing the golf ball as something alien and turn it into an object more familiar to them, their improvements were automatic. Now whenever something went wrong with their golf ball/shot they'd simply ask themselves "what if, it happened with their former favorite object ?"
Sincerely, a friend to any golfer.
